His work combines mythic horror, hard consequences, and characters who may be brave, competent, damaged, or all three at once. His current projects include The Ash-Keeper, a late-Roman fantasy mystery set in the Asimenilene Empire, and Obsidian Butterflies, the opening novel of the Tree of Death Cycle.
A veteran and longtime public servant, Ritter brings an interest in history, martial traditions, crisis, and the human choices made under pressure to his fiction. He lives in the American Southwest.
